The 1990's Called...

I was out with some girlfriends for a night of dancing this weekend when we saw a woman dancing wearing a crop top. Now I understand that every woman wants to go out and feel sexy. Crop tops are not the way to go about doing so, even if you are skinny. First, it's not pretty to be hanging out and showing everything off. Secondly, crop tops haven't been in style since the 1990s and even then it was a risky judgement call.

Appropriate bar style starts with wearing clothes that fit you. Please avoid dressing in skin tight clothing that are three sizes too small. Rolls (everybody gets them, skinny or fat) are not attractive. Most importantly, please avoid clothing that reveals too much. The entire club doesn't need to see your vajay-jay to know you are sexy.

Love at First Sight

I have found an excellent resource: Vogue Paris on Twitter. If you have Twitter, I highly suggest follow Vogue Paris (or check their webiste regularly) especially if you understand Friench, but they translate their tweets as well. One of their many tweets brought me to these:Celebrating the 5 year anniversary of Dior Glossy, Joh Galliano created 70s inspired 18c gold sunglasses. They are beautiful!

Spring is in the Air

Sorry for the time off... Things have been really busy. None the less, spring is here and that means the return of skirts, dresses and even shorts (in those nie days leading us into summer). Vogue has stated some of this seasons greatest fashion trends. Here is a short list of what to expect and look for.

1. the 50's- skirts and cinched waists are back

2. Clean Chic- simple, no fuss, no frills

3. Sweater Dresses- head to toe knits is cozy, compfrtable and chic

Now this is not the entire list, I will let you check that out at the Vogue website. My personal tip: don't over do any of these trends, moderation is key. Too much of anything gets boring. And please don't wear these.....

Creativity is Key

I understand that everyone wants to be "trendy". I want to be "trendy". But people, not every outfit has to be the same, tights, boots, oversized shirt. While this is both comfortable and the new in trend, you look like everyone else. If I can give a tip here, Don't over do one trend and forget about all the other clothes that are out there. Use your creativiity to put outfits together. Throw on a pair of jeans once in a while. Wear a dress. Maybe you will start a new trend.

One trend that NEEDS to end

I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Las Vegas, NV and the fashion, both the stores and people, are AMAZING.

However, I have noticed a new trend that I think is both unattractive and cheap, the JEGGING.

Now this is the legging that appears to be denim and yet is the same material as leggings (or tights). It looks terrible, as if your jeans are painted on your body. The worst pairs are the ones that are acid wash (Yes terrible '80's fashion is back) or the fake disstressed ones. It takes 2 seconds to put on a real pair of jeans and not immitation ones. And while a select few celebrities and fashionistas can pull the jegging off, the majority of the population can NOT. Your bum will always look better in a great pair of jeans.

Here is a great video that will help explain how to know if your jeans are a good fit for you body. Fit is very important and you must make sure that the jeans are the right size and right cut for your body type to be able to rock them with full confidence.

Lime Green and Excessive Zippers Equals Problem Pants

First I want to apologize for the quality of this photo, it was taken with a cell phone. More importantly, whoever thought that bright lime green pants was a good idea, clearly should be arrested. Secondly, added the excessive, unnecessary zippers all over is a HUGE problem. Why do these pants even exist? No one looks good in them. If you own them, burn them immediately, if not sooner. It does not hide a larger figure, in fact it makes you look bigger. It does not compliment a smaller figure, you drown in the size, colour and ridiculousness of them. In the future, please remember, unnecessary zippers and lime green don't mix.

Great Winter Fashion

This young lady has an AMAZING sense of fashion. The fantastic winter coat with the large bow, purple tights with grey booties and a cute little dress peeping out of the bottom of her coat... FANTASTIC! Why can't more people put thought into their outfits. I discovered this young lady during a fire drill at Niagara College. The second I saw her I thought, "this girls got it! I want, no NEED, that outfit." The coat does top off how great this young lady looks! If only the rest of the world could look this good!

Pigtail are NOT ok at a bar

I would hope that most of you that follow my blog will notice and acknowledge all that is wrong with this photo. I was out at a bar, enjoying a night out with the girls, listening to a rockin' band and this is what I saw. Naturally, I was shocked. Who goes out to a bar in a sweatshirt and pigtails? Pigtails are not appropriate, particularly these ones, the ones that are positioned on top of your head. These pigtails suit young girls under the age of 12. If you are over the age of 12, please keep your hair simple: low pony-tails are ok, fancy up do's are ok. Pigtails: NEVER ok, especially at a bar!

The Philosphy

I am starting this blog to express my feelings about what I see on a daily basis: people and what they wear.

I understand that everyone has "those days", usually after a long night of dancing, or a high stress exam. In all fairness, I have my days too where all I want is to go out in my Lou Lou's and not care if I have showered or not. BUT this doesn't not occur on a weekly, or dare I say it, a daily basis. I don't understand how people forget to shower, wear sweatpants everyday and wear socks with their sandals.

Equally, I don't understand the people that claim "I don't care what people think of me".
Why do you do everything your power to get as much attention as possible then? Your safety pin vest and duck tape purse are all cries for attention, whether you think it is or not.

Do these people not own a mirror or do they just forget to look at it before they leave the house?

Now I don't claim to have the greatest sense of style. I do buy sale items and I don't always buy name brand clothing/shoes/accessories. But I can't pass a window without checking my reflection in it to ensure that my hair, clothes and makeup are just right. I like looking put together and sane. It shows confidence.

This blog is not a focus on ALL the bad fashion that is out there on a daily basis. I will also be discussion and praising those that I do see that have an awesome sense of style and really know how to put themselves together on a regular/daily basis. So please note that I will not just be mean and criticizing everyone, but I will be giving recognition when it is due. There are more people out there that have the same love of fashion as I do. There are more people out there that can take the extra 15 seconds to put on a pair of jeans, or tights with sweater dress before heading out into the public. Those people that stand out within that large crowd do deserve recognition.

Hopefully there are more posts on great fashion, but I fear that I will notice the really bad combinations. Those just tend to stick out more than all the good outfits. So, for the future, PLEASE put some effort into dressing yourself before stepping out into public because trust me, I am watching!
